Barcelona are looking to swoop another talented winger from the Brazilian leagues and this time they have set their sights on the very talented 17-year-old left winger Rodrygo. According to latest reports, the player’s father and agent were in Barcelona. However, no talks took place regarding the sale of the player and it was just a courtesy visit from his father and agent.
The 17-year-old is certainly a future prospect for the Blaugrana and they have often found gems in the Brazilian league over the years. Rodrygo currently plays for Santos a club which Neymar was a part of. However, the signing of Rodrygo will not be that straightforward as there are complications between the relationship of Barcelona and Santos.
Santos president José Carlos Peres confirmed that Barcelona are interested in their Brazilian winger. The club also claims that they are owed €14.5m in total from Barça with regards to the Neymar transfer and that could prove to be a stumbling block for Barcelona in signing this new talent. The Brazilian club has indicated that there would be no deal with the Catalan until the debt of the Neymar transfer is paid.
The winger can play on either of the flanks and can turn up as a centre-forward as well. Like most Brazilians, he has a flair to his game and his skills and trickery allows him to go past his defenders with ease. The winger will certainly not make the senior team straightaway at Barcelona and he will probably have to bide his time with the reserve squad before he gets a chance to play for the first team.
However, Santos and Barcelona are not currently on best of terms as Santos are still owed money from Neymar’s transfer and hence it will be interesting to see whether Santos will do business with them until and unless the past debts are paid in full.
Barcelona’s performances in the latter half of the season must have left a sour taste in their fans mouth as they lost the chance to be invincible in the league and were knocked out of Champions League under spectacular circumstances. Nevertheless, they had a successful season and they are looking to bring in more talents to continue their dominance in the Spanish division. Rodrygo has all the attributes to become another rising star from Brazil but Barcelona will have to sort out their relationship with his club before they can get him to sign a contract at Camp Nou.
