Australian football legend is set to be released by Millwall as his contract is soon expiring. The Australian midfielder was signed in January for a short-term deal. His name has not been included in Millwall’s list of retained players for the 2018/19 season. His contract is set to expire in May and the Lions are not too keen on extending his contract.
Cahill has been included in the Kangaroos 26 man squad for the World Cup and will be gunning to play in his fourth consecutive tournament. If he manages to score a goal he will join the coveted list of players who scored in four consecutive World Cups. The three players to achieve this rare feat are Pele, Miroslav Klose and Uwe Seeler.
One of the major reasons he signed for Millwall was so that he can play at a competitive level and prepare for the upcoming World Cup. He managed just 63 minutes of playing time in his 10 appearances but was lauded by the Millwall board for the impact he had off the pitch.
The 38-year-old might not be ready to play week in week out anymore but an experienced head like him will certainly benefit a lot of dressing rooms and we look at three Championship clubs that can bring the Australian on a short-term basis.
Brentford
Managed by Dean Smith, Brentford has some exciting young talents. The average age of their team has been around 24 and they can bring in a player like Tim Cahill in their squad which will help the young players and he still can pop in with some crucial goals coming off the bench.
Queens Park Rangers
The English club who were in the Premier League not too long ago, have seen their stocks go down over the years. They finished a dismal 16th and their manager Ian Holloway will love to bring a reputable character like Tim Cahill in the dressing room to guide the young crop of players he has at his disposal.
