Aston Villa manager, Steve Bruce has expressed his desire to offer a contract to the experienced defender Alan Hutton. His team are just one game away from qualifying for the Premier League and Hutton has certainly played a crucial role in it. He was instrumental in the recently concluded two-legged encounter of the playoffs as he kept Adama Traore quiet throughout the game even though he was playing in his unfavoured position, that is at the left back.
Hutton, who is traditionally a right-back, has featured 31 times in all competitions and has been one of the underrated gems for Steve Bruce’s side as he has quietly gone about his business week in week out. The experienced defender has been around the blocks for quite some time and he brought in all his experience in to play in the playoff clash against Middlesbrough.
The defender has been at Villa Park since 2011 and has slowly established himself in the first team after few loan spells at other clubs. He started his career with the Scottish giants Rangers but he has made his name playing for the Blue and Clarets. In a recent interview, Steve Bruce was asked whether he will like his defender to extend his contract to which he replied in positive and said yes.
He further added,”If I get my way there will certainly be a contract offered to him.I’ve continued to say this about Alan Hutton. He is everything I enjoy about a player. He goes home, is one of the first in, and you can see his fitness levels at 34 are quite remarkable. He’s been terrific since I’ve been here.”
Only time will tell whether he will be offered a new deal but it is clear that Steve Bruce likes the defender and will love to have him on the team for next year as well. This move, however, can hinge on Villa’s qualification to the Premier League and if they remain in the Championship, funds could be an issue and that might see them miss out on the defender.

Hutton has a good amount of experience in the Premier League as he was a part of the Tottenham Hotspur squad for close to three years. A player like him certainly boosts the team even by being on the pitch or off it. Hutton has been a thorough professional over the years and even if they don’t go on to win the playoffs, he certainly deserves an extension to his contract and the board should try to accommodate him in the squad in the next year as well.
