Mikel Arteta will ask for total control over transfers at Arsenal as the North London club prepares to appoint him as the new successor to Arsene Wenger next week. The Manchester City assistant coach is currently in pole position to take over as the new Gunners boss in the coming weeks.
Some sources are now claiming that the 36-year-old Spaniard will spend this week finalising the details of his Arsenal deal which includes recruiting his coaching staff while ensuring that he has a big role to play in the club’s transfer policy. It is expected that Arteta will have to work on a limited budget as he looks to rebuild the Gunners squad ahead of the new campaign.
Let’s take a look at three players that Arteta could look to bring in during this summer transfer period.
Bruno Peres
The 28-year-old AS Roma right-back has been a rock at the back for the Serie A side this season. The Brazilian full-back has featured in 25 matches for the Italian team last term across all competitions and has one assist to his name. He would be an ideal candidate to compete with Hector Bellerin and has the ability to feature in the Gunners first-team on a regular basis if Arsenal opted to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Riyad Mahrez
The Leicester City playmaker might be the most realistic option for the North London club right now and his record last season has been sensational, to say the least. The Algerian international has scored 13 goals while providing 13 assists in 41 appearances for the Foxes last season.
He will definitely be a perfect fit to play under Mikel Arteta due to his versatility of playing in multiple attacking positions. If the Gunners opts for his services this summer, they will be getting a Premier League proven player who knows what it takes to win major silverware as evidenced by his incredible title-winning season at the King Power Stadium.

James Tarkowski
The Burnley defensive ace has put in some solid displays at the back for Sean Dyche’s team during the course of the last campaign. The Manchester-born centre-back will be the perfect candidate to shore up Arsenal’s defence and could turn out to a shrewd signing if the Gunners can pull off such a deal. The 25-year-old has featured in 33 matches for the Clarets in the last campaign and has been an integral member in Burnley’s rise to securing a Europa League place for next season.
