Arsenal are looking to secure the services of Atlanta midfielder Bryan Cristante this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are lining up a move to bring the Italian midfielder to the Emirates Stadium when the transfer window opens in the summer. However, they could face strong competition from Chelsea in pursuit of the Italian playmaker’s signature.
Cristante has put in a number of eye-catching displays for the Serie A side during the course of this campaign. The 23-year-old has been in sensational form for Atlanta this season, scoring 12 goals while grabbing four assists in 44 appearances for the club across all competitions. Some sources are now claiming that the player’s representatives have met with Arsenal chiefs in London, a few weeks ago to discuss about a potential deal in the summer.
The Italian club initially signed Cristante on a loan deal from Benfica before sealing a permanent switch last summer. He came through the youth ranks at AC Milan before being snapped up by Benfica for a fee in the region of £5m back in 2014. Cristante could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business for the Gunners if they can pull off such a deal this summer.
Wenger’s team are looking set to finish in the top 6 in the Premier League standings and currently have a total tally of 57 points, having played 35 league matches. The North London side will need to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer period by recruiting some quality players, who can help them in their quest to bridge the gap between themselves and their top 4 rivals next season.
The potential addition of Cristante will undoubtedly bolster the Gunners’ midfield options ahead of the new campaign. Arsenal have the likes of Jack Wilshere, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny vying for the central midfield positions in Wenger’s starting eleven. The addition of Cristante will definitely improve their squad significantly and add more competition for places within the Arsenal first-team.
