Arsenal are hoping to secure the services of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are lining up a move for the Uruguayan international during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the Serie A ace has a release clause worth £22m in his current contract with Sampdoria which is set to expire in the summer of 2022.
The 22-year-old has been included in Uruguay’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia next month. Some sources are now claiming that the North London giants are prepared to meet his release clause in an attempt to bring the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium this summer. However, they are not the only ones looking to recruit the Uruguayan international with Liverpool, Everton, Juventus and Napoli all being linked with a move for the player.
Torreira had an outstanding campaign in the Serie A last season helping his team finish in the 10th position. He has put in a number of commanding displays for Sampdoria during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed. The new Arsenal boss Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his options at North London and Torreira fits the bill perfectly.
The Gunners has only managed to earn a 6th placed finish in the top tier of English football which will see them not take part in the UEFA Champions League for at least another season. Hence, Unai Emery needs to make some shrewd additions during this ongoing transfer window so that he can ensure a top 4 finish and compete for some major trophies in the next campaign.
The addition of Torreira will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s midfield options at the Emirates Stadium. The North London outfit have an array of midfield talents such as Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny competing for a place in Emery’s first eleven. The potential acquisition of Torreira will add more competition for places within the Arsenal squad and improve their team significantly in the upcoming season.
