Arsenal are preparing to bring in a new goalkeeper in this summer transfer period and have their eyes set on VFL Wolfsburg shot-stopper Koen Casteels this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are planning to secure the services of the Belgian keeper when the transfer window opens.
The North Londoners have been left frustrated by some of the costly mistakes made by their goalkeepers Petr Cech and David Ospina during the course of this campaign. Hence, it should not come as a surprise that the club would want to address some of their goalkeeping problems by bringing in a fresh face between the sticks in the summer. Casteels joined Wolfsburg from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2015 and has established himself as the number one keeper at the Volkswagen Arena.
The Belgian has been a rock at the back for Wolfsburg and has put in a number of outstanding performances for the Bundesliga outfit this season. He has featured in 37 matches for the German side, allowing in just 49 goals while keeping 10 clean sheets in all competitions.
At 6ft 4inch, the Belgian is a commanding presence in goal and the Gunners will do well to prise him away from German football.
The North London side have finished their league campaign with a total tally of 63 points after 38 league fixtures. They have had a sub-par season under Arsene Wenger which has seen the Frenchman depart the Gunners after 22 years at the club. The North London outfit are now preparing for a period of transition following Wenger’s departure and will now look to go into the summer transfer market looking to make some quality additions to their squad.
The potential acquisition of Casteels will undoubtedly bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season. Arsenal have goalkeepers such as Petr Cech, David Ospina, Matthew Ryan Macey and Dejan Iliev in their ranks so the addition of Casteels will definitely add more competition for places within the Gunners team and improve their squad significantly going into the new campaign.

At 25, the Belgian still has his peak years ahead of him which Arsenal could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Casteels and whether he ends up making a switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
