Arsenal are looking to secure the services of AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are keen on sealing a move to bring the Italian youngster to the Emirates Stadium during this summer transfer period.
The former Sassuolo player had put in a number of outstanding displays for Roma during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed. Some sources are now claiming that Unai Emery’s side are hoping to recruit him ahead of the new season but they could face stiff competition from Juventus in pursuit of the Italian midfielder’s signature. It is believed that Pellegrini has a release clause worth £26m in his current contract with the Serie A club.
Recent reports suggest that Roma has lined up a replacement in the form of Bryan Cristante if Pellegrini departs the club this summer. The 21-year-old had featured in 37 matches for the Italian team last season, scoring 3 goals while grabbing 5 assists in all competitions. He has also earned three international caps for the Italian national team so far in his career.
The North London side has only managed to secure a 6th placed finish in the top tier of English football which will see them miss out on UEFA Champions League football once again for at least another season. Hence, Emery needs to bring in some top-class players during this summer transfer window so that he can ensure a top 4 finish and compete for some silverware in the next campaign.
The addition of Pellegrini will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s midfield options at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have an array of midfield talents such as Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny vying for a starting berth in their first-eleven. The potential acquisition of Pellegrini will add more competition for places within the Arsenal squad and improve their team significantly in the upcoming season.

At the mere age of 21, the Italy international still has a lot of time to develop and take his game to the next level. There is no doubt that he will be a worthy investment for the future if the Gunners can pull off such a move. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Pellegrini and whether Arsenal can convince him to ply his trade in North London next term.
