The essential ingredient to the long-term success of any enterprise, corporation, company, etc is the ability to retain their quality over the years. Constant chopping and changing of methods, employees and values will not only lower the standard but also bring about an unstable situation, which could ripple into something way worse.
At Arsenal Football Club, Arsene Wenger has been in charge for the last 2 decades. Over the 22 years, the French professor has won several trophies, developed a new stadium, created his own brand of football and nurtured young talents into superstars of football.
Of the many prodigies who came under the tutelage of Wenger, the story of Jack Wilshere has been the most agonizing. The talented midfielder broke into the first team at the age of 16. A freshly plucked youth academy product, the stout footballer had no problem in facing the professionals of the physical English football.
He went toe to toe for not only challenges and altercations but also the skill and the will to win his team matches. Over the years, he promised more and more and on days when Wilshere played, the Englishman was untouchable.
However, the curse of multiple injuries hit the player time and time again and almost a decade later, Wilshere is still struggling to find his place in the first team despite being a gifted and a thorough professional.
To make matters even more complicated, his contract is set to expire this season and a renewal has not been agreed upon yet between the player and the club. Wilshere for his part has openly expressed his desire to stay.
“We’re still in the same position [of negotiations], really. Not much has changed, we’re still talking.”
“Obviously the boss has left, which will change things a little bit because I don’t know who’s going to be the manager next year, and that can change things. But we’re still talking, and I’m hopeful and the club are hopeful, that we can get something done.”
“I haven’t really thought about [the possibility that leaving the club could happen]. I’ve said before that this is where I want to be and I really haven’t had much time to think about moving.”

The ball is now in Arsenal’s court who would do well to understand the talent and the loyalty Wilshere brings to the club. He is a Gunner through and through and having him in the team for even half the season is worth the same as having a Granit Xhaka for two years. For us football fans, let’s hope the love story of Wilshere and Arsenal get a happy ending.
