Arsenal are plotting a move for Leicester City playmaker Riyad Mahrez this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are looking to secure the services of the Algerian international when the transfer window opens again in the summer. The North London outfit were previously linked with a move for Mahrez in the summer of 2016 but he opted to decline a move to Arsenal and decided to sign a four-year deal with Leicester instead.
Some sources are claiming that the Foxes midfield star could push for a move to the Emirates Stadium during the summer transfer period after failing to seal a move to Manchester City in January. It is believed that Mahrez favours a move to North London over a switch to Manchester so a deal could possibly take place if the two clubs can come to an agreement over a potential fee.
The Algerian has a house in London and is keen on being a Gunner in the near future. However, his current contract with the Foxes runs out in the summer of 2020 which means that Claude Puel will be under no pressure to sell unless his side receives a sizable fee for their prized asset. The 27-year-old winger has featured in 39 matches for the West Midlands club this season, scoring 11 goals while grabbing 11 assists in all competitions.
The Gunners are currently occupying the 6th position in the league table with a tally of 60 points after playing 36 league fixtures. Although, they have had a season to forget so far yet Arsene Wenger’s departure as the Arsenal manager could see a period of transition for the North Londoners as they look to establish themselves among the Premier League‘s best teams in the coming years.
The addition of Mahrez will undoubtedly bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Arsenal have the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere vying for a place in their first-team. The potential acquisition of Mahrez will add more competition within the Arsenal squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.

The Algerian international is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the pitch. Mahrez can play on either flank or in the number 10 position which makes him a perfect fit for the Gunners. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Mahrez and whether Arsenal can convince the Foxes to sell him in the summer.
