Aston Villa are set to take on Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium for the first leg of the first playoff in this season’s Sky Bet Championship. The Villains finished 4th to Boro’s 5th and the two sides will now have 180 minutes to compete for a place in the playoffs final.
Both teams have a fantastic defensive structure which means that the match is set to be a cagey affair. Villa boss Steve Brue will know that playing away at Boro will be a tricky affair and his first agenda on the night will be to not lose the match. He is likely to set up a midfield oriented team to win the battle in the middle of the park.
It will also help him slow down the tempo of the match to his liking and wait for Villa to hit on the break. This is how he might set his team up for the all-important first leg.
