It is the big tie of the season as Manchester United face Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup. The Red Devils have finished second in the league but remain trophyless but this match could prove to be the difference.
However, the United boss begs to differ. “People can do what they want, you can analyse the way you want to analyse. I can also analyse the way I want to analyse,” said Mourinho. “Of course it makes a difference, but it’s one thing to make a difference and the other is to consider the season good or bad because of one match.
“I know the positive things and the negative things so I am not going to change my analysis of the season because of the result of one match. Not at all.”
United face Chelsea in the final in what many pundits are fearing will be a cagey, dull affair with both teams stronger in defence than in attack. However, Mourinho once again was at his scathing best when asked about this.
“I don’t understand these words of entertaining. Do you think 6-0 is entertaining? I don’t think so. I think entertaining is emotional until the end, an open result until the end, everybody on their seats until the end, both dug-outs nervous and tense with the unpredictability of the result. For me as a football lover, not as a manager, that’s entertaining. I think it will be entertaining.”
It now remains to be seen what line up the United boss presents given his primary objective will be to win this tie. Here is how we feel the Red Devils might line up for the match.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence:
David De Gea will surely be the man in the goal for United. The right-back position is likely to be allotted to Antonio Valencia with Ashley young filling in at left back. The two centre-backs for the night could be Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo.
Midfield:
Nemanja Matic will surely be one of the central midfielders with Paul Pogba likely to be his partner. Jesse Lingard could start ahead of them in an attacking role from the midfield. The Englishman has been recently picked for the World Cup squad of England and will be looking to justify his selection with another stellar performance as he has been dishing out for the better part of the season.
Attack:
Romelu Lukaku is yet to recover and hence Marcos Rashford might start up front with Alexis Sanchez to his left and Anthony Martial to his right.
