Everton defender Ashley Williams has been left frustrated at Goodison Park due to lack of regular game time. The defender made the switch from Swansea City and it was expected that the experienced Welshman would be an important feature for them at the back. However, more often than not, he has had to bide his time on the bench this season.
The defender recently was asked whether he has been frustrated with his time at the club and he said, ”Yes, definitely. It’s always difficult not being involved and you want to play because playing a game is that bit harder.”
“But what can you do? I’ve just tried to stay in shape and on Monday I’ll just try and use my experience as best I can and play as well as I can.”- he further added. (Wales will be facing Mexico in a friendly)
He managed 34 appearances for the Toffees this season in all competitions but quite a few of them were late ones from the bench. The defender didn’t play for the Merseyside club since March 3 when he was sent off against Burnley and his exile from the team coincided with Everton’s good form in the latter half of the season which saw them finish at 8th.
The defender has not covered himself in glory with his performances as he has been very error prone at the back. The Toffees would have certainly expected much better from the experienced warhorse but he wasn’t able to replicate his performance at Swansea where he was a rock for them at the back.
Everton, under the new management, will be looking to strengthen further and it is likely that the 33-year-old might not feature extensively in the new manager’s plans. He has his contract until the next season and there is every possibility he will be sold so that the club can get some sort of transfer money for him.

Everton has the likes of Michale Keane, Phil Jagielka, Mason Holgate and Ramires Funes Mori and can also end up signing Eliaquim Mangala on a permanent basis in the summer. All these options will certainly limit the game time for Williams even further.
So the defender can look for a move-out, as he himself admitted that he has been left frustrated. He still can add value to certain teams who are in need of a defender given his experience in the Premier League and maybe if he gets regular playing time, he will cut down on his errors as well.
