Reports in the media are confirming that Shkodran Mustafi will soon be parting ways with Arsenal. The defender was signed by Arsene Wenger but after impressing in his debut season, he has fallen way down the pecking order. He has been below par and has made schoolboy errors in defence throughout the season, which has put his team in harm’s way quite a few times.
With Wenger now gone, there is talk of Mikel Arteta replacing him as the manager at the Emirates. Arteta, it seems, will want to reshape the backline and wants to get rid of both Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny, who is out until December with an Achilles injury.
With so many defenders set to leave Arsenal, they will need a few replacements and here are three players they can target this season.
Toby Alderweireld
The Tottenham Hotspur defender is at crossroads with the owners of the club. He has an unresolved contract situation that might see him leave the club soon. He is an excellent defender and has plenty of Premier League experience. He is technically gifted and good on the ball. He can build attacks from the back which is ideal for a team like Arsenal.
Moreover, swooping in for a player from the direct rivals will be a great boost for the Gunners. Alderweireld is only 29, which means he still has plenty of time ahead of him. He is a brilliant reader of the game and does not make unnecessary tackles unless he is needed to.
David Luiz
Another player with great Premier League experience and another scoop from the direct rivals in the domestic circuit. David Luiz on his day is perhaps the best defender in the world on his day but his days of inconsistency are far too many and that could be held against him.
However, he is a brilliant tackler, is physically strong and has an excellent aerial ability. He is also extremely attacking minded which has seen him score some wonderful and outrageous goals.

Harry Maguire
The Leicester City defender has made a name for himself this season for his solid displays in the backline. He has improved leaps and bounds in the last few years and is tipped to join a top six side this summer. The player is an ideal fit for the Premier League and would be a great replacement for Arsenal if they let go of Mustafi in summer.
