Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of making major moves in the summer window, one of them being the sale of Victor Wanyama. The 26-year-old’s name has been called up in pursuit of the £170m Mauricio Pochettino plans on raising in July. Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele are also on the list.
Wanyama has undergone a difficult season with only 20 appearances to his name. A cartilage injury kept him out of action until December and the return back to regular football has been full of obstacles. The prime one being Eric Dier, who has proven to be a class act in the defensive midfield role.
The Englishman not only solidifies the Spurs midfield with his key ball-winning capabilities, he also has formed a formidable partnership with Dembele at the heart of the park. This, in turn, has allowed Wanyama to be selected on a sporadic basis rather than the nightly action he received last season.
The Kenya international is still relatively young and could fetch Pochettino a decent price. His contract is set to run till the summer of 2021.
Obviously, his departure will have to be followed up with a replacement. While Tottenham line up potential candidates, here are a few clubs who should move for Wanyama.
The Toffees rebuilding project took a massive detour when Ronald Koeman failed to bring wins to the fans at Goodison Park. Sam Allardyce has succeeded in getting the team out of the bottom three and in the top half of the table. But even then, the Englishman has not come close to challenging for the top-four spot.
Majority of the investments that were made in the previous summer window has failed to click with the rest of the team and further signings will have to be made and Wanyama could be the perfect fit.
Between Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and James McCarthy, Everton could do with more quality in the holding midfield role, especially since the latter’s return cannot be guaranteed for the start of the 2018/19 season.
Can it happen? Will Tottenham agree to sell to their bitter rivals? While you ponder on those questions, let us take a look at why this move makes sense.
The Gunners just lost Francis Coquelin to Valencia in the January window and are left with Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka in the position. They are also about to lose Jack Wilshere on a free if a contract is not agreed upon.
Wanyama could prove to be the long-term fix with a lot of Premier League experience.

The Reds have been yearning for a defensive ace ever since Emre Can tore up the extension offer that was made to him earlier in the season. If the German ends up making his way out of Anfield, Jurgen Klopp will require a player to sit in the anchor role and dictate the tempo and Wanyama is a name they can surely consider.
