The news outlets have been flooded with news surrounding Steven Gerrard’s appointment as the Rangers FC manager. The Scottish Premiership outfit has placed the Liverpool legend high on their summer shortlist and the deal seems close to being completed.
Of course, a celebratory moment for Gerrard and the Reds fans who have followed every step and “slip” of the 37-year-old ever since he emerged from the club’s academy. The Gers could do with a fresh face in the club’s management and the Liverpool U18 coach could be the one to turn things around for them.
The 5-0 dismantling from their bitter rivals, Celtic in the weekend fixtures did not place a good look on the footballing world, especially after the 4-0 thrashing in the Scottish Cup Semi-Finals and it took its toll on the caretaker manager Graeme Murty, who had to face the sack.
The club is in second place of the Scottish top-flight and yet seems to be in shambles. Their long-awaited challenge for the league title has not gone as they had planned.
Some of the blame can be placed on Murty but the majority of it goes to the owner for failing to sign a competent head throughout the 2017/18 campaign.
There is no guarantee as to whether the Gerrard move will work out in the future. The gamble might already have been taken but the best way of ensuring it does not head towards a complete disaster is by signing more players.
Here are a few players the 37-year-old can bring with him to the Ibrox stadium when he finally takes over the reins.
Ben Woodburn
An astounding talent in the Liverpool books who needs more playing time. Jurgen Klopp looked optimistic in sending the 18-year-old Welshman out on loan in January but later recalled the move due to a lack of backup options in the wing position.
Woodburn is a product of the Liverpool academy and does possess the abilities to make it into the Rangers starting XI. He will add a lot of pace to the Gers front line and could break open defences with his scoring pedigree.
Marko Grujic
The Rangers midfield could do with some help in the coming season and the 22-year-old could fill in as a solid creative and defensive option. Grujic is adept at holding the central positions and distributing the ball to his teammates. His chances in the Liverpool squad will be slim to none when Naby Keita makes his way over from RB Leipzig this July.

Lamine Kone
Sunderland have been relegated to the League One and are expected to do away with a few of their high-profile names this summer. Kone could well be out on his way from the Stadium Of Light and Rangers should make a swoop offer, that is if Russell Martin’s permanent move from Norwich City is not sanctioned.
