Liverpool are planning to strengthen their squad this summer in order to challenge for major trophies next season. According to recent reports, the Reds chairman Tom Werner has promised that the Merseyside club will splash the cash during this summer transfer period as they look to build an even stronger squad going into the new campaign.
In a recent interview, Werner revealed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will have the funds to make new recruits in this window so that the Reds can challenge on all fronts next term. He was quoted to have said, “I am excited to see Naby Keita join the club this summer and I can only promise our supporters that we will continue to improve the squad,”
“Whatever happens on Saturday night, we will ensure we have a strong squad to compete for trophies next season which will have even more depth.
“We will make decisions that will improve the team and we will sign players who make us even more successful.”
Let’s take a look at three players that the Reds should look to recruit in this post-season.
Jan Oblak
The Atletico Madrid keeper can be considered as one of the best players in his position in European football. The Merseyside outfit needs a top-class keeper if they are to challenge for major trophies next year. Hence, a big money move for Oblak makes sense as he will be a very important asset under Klopp if Liverpool can pull off such a move.
Nabil Fekir
The Lyon captain has been in mesmerising form in the Ligue 1 last season. The French midfielder had made 40 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, scoring 23 goals while grabbing 8 assists in all competitions. He will be a perfect replacement for Phillipe Coutinho at Anfield so Jurgen Klopp should do everything in his power to bring him to Merseyside.
Matthijs de Ligt
The AFC Ajax starlet has put in a number of outstanding displays during the course of last season. At the mere age of 18, the Dutch centre-back has been a rock at the back which indicates that he can be a future star at Liverpool if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in the English top-flight. It is no secret that the Merseysiders need to strengthen their backline in the summer so the addition of another Dutchman alongside Virgil Van Dijk in the Reds defence might be a shrewd move by Klopp as the player also fits FSG’s policy of recruiting talented youngsters.
