Justin Kluivert, the Ajax star has a host of clubs reportedly interested in him. However, it seems that AS Roma of Italy could be leading the chase and it might see Tottenham Hotspur miss out on him. If Kluivert decides to turn down Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino can definitely look around in the market for alternative targets. Here are three players we feel who can be better if not as good as Kluivert as a transfer target for Spurs.
Anthony Martial
The Frenchman joined Manchester United under the tutelage of Louis Van Gaal. Upon his arrival, Martial took the English league by storm and was a nightmare for the defenders. He was excellent with the ball on his feet and skillful with his finishing as well.
A cool customer on the ball, Martial can be deadly from the wings on his day and to add more threat to his game, he can play as a number nine as well. His pace can be matched by very few defenders in world football and he can dribble past multiple players at a time.
However, the problem that remains with him is his consistency and it has seen him fail to get a starting role at United under Jose Mourinho. The Frenchman however, will definitely want to get more time than what he has been given and this might make him an easy target for Spurs.
Riyadh Mahrez
Not the like for like alternative but a winger nonetheless. Unlike Kluivert, Mahrez prefers to operate from the right flank where he can put his magical left foot to maximum use. The player is a fantastic dribbler and has the potential to be the best player in the country; as was shown back in the 2015-16 season when he won the league with Leicester City.
At Spurs, he should be given a first-team spot if he makes the switch to London. He could be playing next to Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli and together the three playmakers can form a formidable trio behind the deadly Harry Kane.
However, Leicester will not want to lose their star player and might charge a fortune for Mahrez.
Xherdan Shaqiri
The Swiss winger is a star player at Stoke City but with the Potters now relegated, Shaqiri might want to move away from the club in search of top-tier football. The player operates from the left wing and is a tricky customer to deal with. He has stamina, pace and strength and is an ideal winger for the English league.
