West Bromwich Albion wide man James McClean has expressed his desire to make a move to Celtic this summer. According to recent reports, the Baggies winger wants to make a switch to Celtic Park after his side got demoted to the English Championship at the end of last season.
The Republic of Ireland international had been a regular feature for the Baggies during the course of the last campaign. However, he struggled to make an impact at the Hawthorns and ended up finishing the season with just one league goal to his name. Hence, the former Derry City academy product is now eager to leave the Baggies in search of greener pastures.
In a recent interview, McClean hinted that he might be open for a summer move away from the West Midlands club with Celtic one of his preferred destinations. When asked about a potential move to the Glaswegian giants, he was quoted to have said, “That’s always been the dream,”
“Unfortunately that’s not up to me. If it was up to me it would have happened a long time ago. Who knows? Fingers crossed. Maybe one day.”
The Hoops have managed to end their season on a high by pulling off a domestic treble earlier this month. However, they are still struggling to compete in the UEFA Champions League which indicates that Brendan Rodgers needs to revamp his squad ahead of the new campaign.
The addition of McClean will undoubtedly bolster Rodgers’ attacking options at Celtic Park. The Bhoys have a whole host of attacking talents such as Tom Rogic, Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Moussa Dembélé competing for a starting berth in Rodgers’ first-team. The potential acquisition of McClean will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Hoops squad.

McClean had featured in 30 league matches for West Brom last season, scoring just one goal during that time. However, he has earned 58 international caps for the Republic of Ireland national team and has 11 goals to his name so far. At 29, he still has a few years left in him to play at a high level which Celtic could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of McClean and whether he gets his wish of joining the Bhoys next season.
