Manchester United could look to send their centre-back Victor Lindelöf out on loan in the summer. According to recent reports, United boss Jose Mourinho might decide to temporarily part ways with the Swedish defender when the transfer window opens this summer. It is believed that the Special One is a big admirer of his talents but has concerns about him in the short term.
Lindelof has struggled to get enough game time at Old Trafford this season, mainly due to the outstanding form of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones at the heart of the Red Devils defence. Some sources are now claiming that a number of English and European clubs are keeping tabs on his situation at United and could make a move for his services at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old defensive ace has been guilty of making some costly errors in high profile matches during the course of this campaign so he could definitely benefit from a loan move in search of greener pastures. The Swedish international has made 28 appearances for United but is yet to register a goal for them this season. However, he has shown signs of promise and has a bright future so the Red Devils should look to hang on to him for a long time.
A source close to the Manchester club was recently quoted to have said,
“Victor has plenty of promise but Jose is wondering whether to send him out on loan next year.
“Smalling is back in favour and he has some other targets he wants to pursue at the back throughout the summer.
“Victor is now looking over his shoulder. He has dropped off in games while being rotated and that is frustrating for the boss.
“He is happy to bide his time here despite the question marks. The others can be trusted, and he can’t just yet.”
The Reds of Manchester are currently sitting in the second position in the league rankings with a handsome tally of 77 points in 35 league matches. They have also managed to get themselves into the final of the FA Cup where they will go cross paths with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea next month.
Retaining some of their top talents could go a long way in helping Mourinho close the gap to Manchester City in the coming years. The Portuguese manager needs to bring in a few quality players who he can rely on, in the off-season. However, Lindelof doesn’t seem to able to cut the mustard at Old Trafford so far. Hence, a loan deal can benefit all parties as the Swedish centre-back can surely develop his game by playing regular football and be a star in the Premier League for years to come.

It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Lindelof and whether he ends up leaving Manchester in order to get more first-team experience this summer.
