Bournemouth are preparing a move for Leeds United full-back Tom Pearce this summer. According to recent reports, the Cherries are planning on securing the signature of the Peacocks youngster in this summer transfer period. However, they are not the only ones looking to snap up the Leeds starlet with Everton also keeping tabs on his progress at Elland Road.
Pearce’s contract with the West Yorkshire outfit runs out in the summer and he is set to become a free agent soon. Some sources have already claimed that the Cherries are waiting to snap him up from under the noses of Everton as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The 20-year-old left-back is a product of the Leeds United Academy and has managed to break into the Peacocks’ senior team this season. He had made 5 appearances for Paul Heckingbottom’s side during the course of his campaign, scoring one goal in the process. It is believed that the Peacocks failed to agree on a new contract with the youngster which could lead to his departure from the club this summer.
Pearce has massive potential and could be a future star in English football so losing him will be a big blow for Leeds in their quest to earn a promotion back to the English top-flight in the years to come.
The West Yorkshire outfit managed to earn a 13th placed finish in the league this term which indicates that they need to make some significant improvements over the summer if they are serious about challenging for a promotion spot next season. Retaining some of their top young talents like Pearce could go a long way in helping them be successful in the near future.
There is no doubt that Pearce has the potential to line up in the Leeds’ first-team for years to come. However, the fact that the club has allowed to let him run down his contract is mind-boggling, to say the least. The potential departure of the English defender will deplete their squad significantly going into the new season. Hence, Leeds should do all they can to ensure that he pens a new deal at Elland Road.
