Chelsea are in the running to sign West Ham’s defensive ace Arthur Masuaku. Masuaku is a fullback who can also be turned into a wingback and is adept at playing on either of the wings. Though Chelsea will have to fight for his signature with fellow London club Tottenham, who also seem to be interested in the Hammers man as they can lose Danny Rose at the end of the season. Rose was linked heavily with a move to Manchester United in 2017 but the things didn’t materialise. However, it is expected that United will again go for Rose as they are looking to replace Luke Shaw.
The 24-year-old has played 28 times for the Hammers this season in all competitions and has been a constant menace for opposing defences down the left flank. Masuaku has played for the French national team at youth level but switched his allegiance to Congo as he is more likely to get regular chances with the African country.
It’s been reported that Spurs will be willing to pay 20 million pounds for the Hammers defender but if Chelsea comes in a bidding war, the price can certainly go up. With West Ham pretty much assured of safety, David Moyes will certainly like to keep his man, but with top clubs like Tottenham and Chelsea fighting for his signature, Masuaku can be lured.
Chelsea has had a poor season under Antonio Conte. It was only last year when he took them to the title but it seems Conte has certainly lost the dressing room. Chelsea’s title-winning season was built on the back of strong defensive performances but they have certainly lacked that this year as they have constantly leaked in poor goals. The forms of Gary Cahill and David Luiz has also been a bit of a concern.
Conte employs two wing-backs in his system with Alonso playing from the left and Victor Moses from the right. Both have come under a fair bit of criticism this year as they have wasted a lot of opportunities by not picking the right pass or making a right decision in the final third of the pitch.

Chelsea can certainly improve if they sign Masuaku. The likes of Moses and Alonso have played almost throughout the season as the Blues didn’t have any other proven option to replace them. With Masuaku coming in he can certainly push the likes of Alonso and Moses to improve and if they don’t Chelsea will have an able option in Masuaku.
