Aston Villa fell further behind in the race for securing an automatic promotion to the Premier League after their goalless stalemate against Hull City last weekend. There are merely 7 more games to go and the Villans are now placed at the 3 spot in the Championship table with 70 points to their name after 39 games. They are trailing second-placed Cardiff City by 8 points.
Nonetheless, a top-six finish seems to be an achievable target for Steve Bruce’s side and there is no denying that Aston Villa have been fairly productive in their endeavours this season. In the process, Robert Snodgrass has been one of the players who has dazzled and has been a galvanizing asset for the club this season. Snodgrass was signed by Bruce on loan from West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
The Scottish international has garnered 34 appearances in the English second tier after his move to the Villa Park and has smashed 7 goals and registered 13 assists. He has been an instrumental figure, particularly during the attacking endeavours of his side, and has managed to earn positive reviews from the football fraternity and Aston Villa fans.
Snodgrass has involved himself heavily in the final third after adjusting brilliantly with the tactical nous of Bruce, has tested oppositions’ goalkeeper from long ranges and close quarters and has jotted stupendous crosses on a regular basis. He has appeared to be hungry, desirous and his movements on and off the ball have been quite appealing. The 30-year-old has managed to resurrect his career and there is no denying that.
He has been the creative maestro for the Lions and he would certainly be an important player for the club in the business end of the season in their quest for promotion. Meanwhile, David Moyes must have been pleased with Snodgrass’ loan spell. However, the former Hull City winger struggled for game time while he was in the ranks of his parent club and thus, he might be against the idea of returning back to West Ham United.
Aston Villa are perceived to be interested in prying Snodgrass out of the London Stadium on a permanent basis in the upcoming summer transfer window buy Moyes is set to run the rule. West Ham United want a minimum of £12million from Aston Villa to let him leave. It would be intriguing to see what lies ahead for Snodgrass but Bruce should leave no stone unturned to acquire him permanently after what he has done for Aston Villa this season.
