West Ham United are interested in securing the services of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa in the summer. According to recent reports, the Hammers are planning on making a summer swoop for the Japanese international. However, they are not the only ones going after Kagawa’s signature, with Everton also keeping tabs on his situation at Dortmund.
It is believed that the Hammers boss David Moyes is on the lookout for a new midfielder in the summer transfer window and Kagawa fits the bill perfectly. Moyes has previously worked with the Japanese midfielder during his time at Manchester United four years ago. However, the 29-year-old failed to perform at a high level at Old Trafford which resulted in him being shipped out to Dortmund in the summer of 2014.
Some sources are now claiming that Moyes is willing to bring him back to the Premier League and give him another shot in England’s top-flight. Kagawa has put in some dazzling displays during the course of this campaign but he has also missed a major bulk of the season due to injuries. His current contract with Dortmund runs until the summer of 2020 with recent reports suggesting that a bid in the region of €13m could pave the way for Kagawa’s return to the Premier League.
The East Londoners are currently sitting in the 14th position in the Premier League table after putting in a solid display versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. However, they are still not completely out of relegation danger with only 6 points separating them from the dreaded drop zone and 18th placed Southampton going into the final stretch of the season.
The addition of Kagawa will undoubtedly bolster David Moyes’ attacking options ahead of the new season as they look to build on their league performance next term. The East Londoners have the likes of Mark Noble, Joao Mario, Mohamad Diame and Manuel Lanzini vying for a place in Moyes’ first-team. The potential signing of Kagawa will likely add more competition for places in the Hammers squad as they look to secure a strong league finish in the new season.

At 29, Kagawa still has his peak years ahead of him which West Ham could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Japanese international and whether he ends up making a switch to the London Stadium in the near future.
