West Ham United manager, David Moyes has kept one eye on Fulham’s Marcus Bettinelli for a probable transfer in the next summer window. The 25-year-old has done remarkably well for the Lillywhites this season and has taken over the number 1 spot from David Button.
Talks of an England call-up was also raised after witnessing the shot-stopper take the pitch in Championship. He has been capped for the just once for the England youth sides and could make a name for himself if Fulham earn promotion after this season.
The Lillywhites remain hopeful of an automatic qualification to the highest tier but still are 5 points short. Cardiff City has the upper hand with 6 games left in the season and Slaviša Jokanović will have to wade the promotion waters, come April.
Bettinelli started his career with Fulham and joined the side back in 2011 for the U21 side. He had to be sent out on loan to Dartford, and Accrington Stanley for the next two seasons for more senior team experience.
Things did not come easy for the Englishman. After playing second fiddle to David Stockdale in his primary years, Bettinelli has finally found his feet in Craven Cottage with 22 clean sheets to his name so far, with the Whites.
While West Ham are trying to improve upon their squad for the following season, prying away one of Fulham’s most prized assets will be tough, even for the experienced David Moyes. The Hammers are struggling to put up points on a regular basis and are festering near the relegation zone.
Their seasonal lows have gone as far as to completely infuriate the fanbase who took to the 0-3 loss to Burnley earlier in March to express their dissatisfaction. The pitch at London Stadium was being invaded by fans from all corners and heavy chants against the ownership were echoing across the stands.
Co-chairman, David Sullivan was even hit by coins and had to be escorted off the grounds by bodyguards. The referee, Lee Mason even had to consult both the managers about discontinuing the game. Some of Burnley players allowed children from the fans to take shelter in the player’s seats, away from all the fighting in the stands.

The atmosphere surrounding the club has turned toxic and a massive change needs to be implemented in order to appease the United crowd. While Joe Hart is expected to depart after his loan spell runs out this summer, Bettinelli’s arrival will go a long way in calming the herd and ensuring the club’s future ambitions of succeeding in the Premier League.
