West Brom is being linked with a move for Preston North End left-back Greg Cunningham this summer. According to recent reports, the Baggies are on the lookout for some new players this summer as they look likely to be relegated from the Premier League at the end of this season.
With a season in the Skybet Championship looming on the horizon, the West Midlands outfit could opt to make a swoop for the Republic of Ireland defender when the transfer window opens in the summer. Cunningham has been in sensational form at Deepdale during the course of this campaign which has alerted the Premier League strugglers ahead of a potential move in the off-season. However, they will face stiff competition from Fulham in pursuit of the Championship defender.
Cunningham joined Preston from Bristol City in the summer of 2015 and has a wealth of experience playing in the second tier of English football which makes him a perfect fit for the Baggies. The 27-year-old has made 18 appearances for the Invincibles this season, finding the back of the net once while grabbing 3 assists in all competitions. He also has 6 international caps for the Republic of Ireland national team to his name.
West Brom are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League rankings with a tally of 24 points in 34 matches in the league. There have been signs of life in their league performances of late but it might be too little too late for them with just 4 matches left in this campaign. They managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford courtesy of a goal from Jay Rodriguez in their last league outing on Sunday.
The addition of Cunningham will undoubtedly bolster the Baggies’ defensive options ahead of the new season. West Brom have the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Allan Nyom vying for the left-back position in their first-team. The potential signing of Cunningham will definitely add more competition for places in the Baggies squad.

At 27, Cunningham still has his peak years ahead of him which the West Midlands side could look to capitalise on in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Cunningham and whether he ends up making a switch to the Hawthorns in the near future.
