Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham Hotspur side have been facing some stern pressure from their London rivals Chelsea for the Champions League qualification places and Spurs need to win their remaining games to easily ensure that they qualify instead.
The first of these important games began by hosting Watford but it turned out to be a comfortable affair. Well taken goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane in each of the halves ensured that Tottenham kept their momentum and proceeded with confidence towards an important win.
Here’s how they’ve been rated after a good victory at the Wembley.
Hugo Lloris – 8/10
Has faced a lot of criticism recently for his errors but he stepped up to the occasion today. Had to place a firm hand to deny Richarlison’s effort and he came off the line swiftly to prevent another one-on-one chance. A captain’s performance indeed!
Kieran Trippier – 9/10
Bombarded forward time and again and he proved to be quite an influential player. His cross led to an error and then Alli’s goal and it was his cross again that created the goal for Harry Kane. He put in a superb display with Southgate watching on.
Davinson Sanchez – 7.5/10
Effortlessly good and very alert to dangers. A heart-warming performance.
Jan Vertonghen – 8/10
His ball playing ability shone through today and he was very assertive defensively. Commendable.
Ben Davies – 6.5/10
Did his bit fairly well.
Eric Dier – 6/10
When it came to interceptions or getting the ball back, he was decent but his ability to play out passes looked very rusty today.
Mousa Dembele – 5.5/10
Kept the tempo going but that is it. He was really sloppy which is unlike him.
Christian Eriksen – 7/10
Got the assist for Alli and he was always looking to do something creative to push Spurs on.
Son Heung Min- 6/10
Kept the fans roaring with some of his dribbles but the end product could have been way better on occasions and the central involvement on occasions didn’t really suit him.
Dele Alli – 7.5/10
Some of his touches and linkups were simply outstanding today and he troubled Watford a lot with his swiftness and presence of mind. He took his chance well and slotted the ball neatly.
Harry Kane – 7/10
Finished well for his goal although he didn’t get a lot of services today.
