Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to seal a move for Sporting CP midfield ace Bruno Fernandes in the summer. According to recent reports, Spurs are ready to make an offer to bring the Portuguese talent to North London when the transfer window opens in the summer. However, they will face strong competition from Liverpool in pursuit of the Portuguese international’s signature.
It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino’s team are keeping tabs on his development in Portugal and have sent scouts to watch him in action over the last few months. Some sources are now claiming that Spurs boss Pochettino is currently considering whether to table an official offer for his services this summer. Fernandes has put in some dazzling displays for Sporting CP during the course of this season which has not gone unnoticed. The Sporting CP playmaker netted the winning goal in his team’s thrilling 4-3 win over Belenenses last weekend.
The 23-year-old midfield enforcer has made 52 appearances for the Portuguese side this season, finding the back of the net 14 times while providing 20 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under Mauricio Pochettino in the coming years as the North Londoners look to challenge for major trophies in both domestic and European competitions.
Spurs are in the 4th position in the league rankings with a healthy tally of 68 points after Gameweek 35. However, they face another campaign without winning any major honours which will be a cause for concern for the Tottenham supporters. Their only chance of silverware was dashed last weekend when they narrowly lost to Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium.
The potential addition of Fernandes will definitely bolster Pochettino’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. The North London club have the likes of Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks vying for a place in the Pochettino’ starting eleven. The acquisition of Fernandes will improve their squad depth significantly and add more competition for places within the Spurs’ team.
