Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to spend big in the summer transfer window and West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez has been named as one of the potential targets. It has been reported that Mauricio Pochettino will have £120m at his disposal even though the Baggies forward might come at a relatively cheaper price.
Rodriguez has been the standout performer for the relegation guaranteed West Brom team with 11 goals and 2 assists in 38 appearances. He scored the winner against Manchester United last weekend to keep Albion’s hopes of a last-ditch escape alive.
Overall the 29-year-old has bred and vetted within the realms of Premier League football for the last 6 seasons. He started his playing career with Burnley and have over 120 appearances for the side.
Rodriguez came broke into the scene after impressing in his debut season in the Premier League with a young and hungry Southampton squad. He was in blistering form ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, scoring 5 goals in 4 games in the month of March.
However, an unfortunate knee injury ruled him out for the international stage and his England caps have since been stuck at just one. The Burnley-born striker spent 11 months on the sidelines and had to undergo a tough readjustment period.
Eventually, the Saints decided on selling off the forward for £12m last summer and Albion has been benefiting ever since. While the player might have resurrected his career in England’s top-flight he is still in danger of drowning with the sinking ship.
Albion’s miraculous escape can only be orchestrated by both Swansea City and Crystal Palace losing all of their last 4 league fixtures and the Baggies winning all of theirs. Their weekend triumph over the Red Devils might have been impressive but it is fair to call it a consolation.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are close to securing a place in the top-four of the points table and are looking to make summer reinforcements. Their current season has seen them progress in the European stage but they have still fallen short in terms of successful title-challenge.
Pochettino’s squad is too thinly stacked to take on elite teams in multiple competitions within a regulars season. Just one season has the potential of derailing a side’s entire campaign.
Obviously, the attack would need some bolstering and Rodriguez can prove to be an able backup to Harry Kane. Fernando Llorente is upset with the role he has received at North London and is close to making a club exit.

This will definitely open up a major role for the 29-year-old Englishman.
