Tottenham Hotspur as a club has come leaps and bounds in last few years and are regularly now competing with the top clubs. Hugo Lloris has been part of that turnaround and is now the club captain. According to reports, the club is willing to offer Hugo Lloris along with other star players a huge contract improvement to keep them at the club. Along with that their manager, Mauricio Pochettino will also sign a new deal to thwart of interest from Real Madrid. This new deal will make him one of the best-paid managers of the Premier League and it will reportedly earn him £8.5million-a-year
The Tottenham board will certainly hope that their efforts will come good as they cannot afford to let go of their golden generation. Other players along with Lloris who are going to be offered the new deal are- Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen. The core of the team is still relatively young and if they continue to stay at Tottenham together, they can surely bring glory days to their club
Hugo Lloris came to Tottenham from Lyon for €10 million in 2012. Lloris then slowly went on to cement his place in the first XI replacing the experienced Brad Freidel. He has been the club captain since the 2015-16 season when Pocchetino handed him the armband when Kaboul left the club.
One can understand why Tottenham board is so keen on keeping their set of players. Yes, they haven’t had any trophy success as of now but they have been playing some exciting football. Pochettino has made this team into a dangerous side and they are now being considered as one of the best teams in the Premier League.
Hugo Lloris as a goalkeeper has faced criticism from time to time. He has made some costly errors which have led to a goal. He is known as a good shot stopper but sometimes his handling and judgement let him down. The best example would be the last weekend’s game against Chelsea where he messed up a cross, which led to Chelsea’s goal. The goal didn’t cost them the game as Tottenham staged a great win at the Stamford Bridge.
If Lloris can cut down his costly errors he can be termed in the bracket of world-class goalkeepers. But these errors have always remained in his game. Though Pochetino clearly trusts him as he is still the club captain and this will be a good deal for both the parties as Lloris is still a good goalkeeper to have.
