Real Madrid hosted their derby rivals Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the La Liga clash. This match though didn’t have much of a significance on top of the table as Barcelona are expected to win the title and the final result of 1-1 didn’t help either of the teams who are looking to put some pressure on Barcelona. With this win though Atletico Madrid managed to stay second as they are four points clear of their derby rivals. After this result, Real are 15 points behind their rivals Barcelona and it seems that a Champions League triumph can only secure Zidane’s future at the Bernabeu.
The first half ended goalless but Real Madrid came close as Marcelo hit the bar and the post with the same effort. Ronaldo has been in red-hot form and as expected he broke the deadlock in the second half when he volleyed Bale’s pinpoint cross in the back of the net. Atletico Madrid wasn’t behind for too long as they leveled the score just three minutes after Real Madrid took the lead as Griezmann equalised.
Let’s take a look how Real Madrid players fared in the derby.
Keylor Navas- 8/10
Did a good job when called upon. Made a great reaction save when he denied Koke’s shot from pretty much point blank range.
Carvajal- 7/10
Was his usual solid self at the back and provided some good overlapping runs from the right. He could have been on the scoresheet but was denied by a superb save from Jan Oblak
Sergio Ramos -7/10
Held the team at the back and organized the defence well.
Varane- 6/10
Defensively he did his job but wasted a good chance at the other end when his effort was denied by Oblak.

Provided a lot of attacking outlet from the left as he made a lot of overlapping runs. Came really close to scoring but was denied by the crossbar
Lucas Vazquez-7/10
Did a good job of disrupting Atletico’s attack and kept the game ticking for his side. Took a few knocks but was brave and carried on.
Mateo Kovacic- 5/10
Had an average game where he didn’t do too many things wrong but could have done better in few situations.
Toni Kroos-7/10
Played the anchor role like he usually does. Was good with his switch up play. On another day he could have won a penalty for his team.
Marco Asensio -6/10
Had a decent game but couldn’t manage to open up the defence. Was relatively kept quiet by Atletico’s defence.
Gareth Bale- 7/10
Provided an assist with a fine cross to Ronaldo from the left.

The Real Madrid star was clinical again in front of the goal as he volleyed in Bale’s cross and gave Real Madrid the lead.
