Recent reports suggest that Real Madrid can get their long-term transfer target David De Gea. According to reports in Spain, Florentino Perez has made him the number one priority in the upcoming transfer window. De Gea came pretty close to joining the Spanish giants a few summers back but the deal fell through at the last minute because of a faulty fax machine.
According to reports, Real Madrid has been in contact with Jorge Mendes, De Gea’s agents, for a few weeks now and the figure could be as high as the 100 million mark. The report suggested that Real Madrid can generate more than half of those funds by their sale price of James Rodriguez who looks likely to be on his way out of the club.
De Gea has been outstanding in the last few years in the Premier League. He had a tough time at the beginning of his stint as he made some poor judgement and costly errors. But as time has progressed, De Gea has quite easily been the best player for the Red Devils. De Gea became the first player in Manchester United’s history to win Sir Matt Busby’s player of the year award three times in a row.
There is no doubting De Gea’s quality but to acquire his services Real Madrid will have to shell out a huge amount of money. They currently have Keylor Navas and he has done well over the last few years even though many have doubted his ability. Recently he made a costly error in the Champions League Quarterfinals against Juventus which allowed the Italian side a way back into the game. But one should not be too critical of his mistakes as Navas has stepped up more often than not when called upon.
It will be a huge loss for Manchester United if Real Madrid gets him as De Gea has been instrumental in keeping this current United side afloat at the top level. Many suggest without De Gea United could have easily been battling for top 4 spot but currently, they sit comfortably at the second spot in the league.

De Gea will surely be an upgrade over Navas but Navas deserves slightly better as he has performed well for them amidst all the transfer speculations. We have often seen Madrid wanting to have star players in their squad and this move will be certainly along those lines. United, on the other hand, will suffer a severe headache to replace him in the summer and one can be sure that Jose Mourinho will not let his star man go easily.
