Rangers are eyeing a summer move for Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield this summer. According to recent reports, the Clarets midfielder is attracting interest from the Gers ahead of a potential move in the summer. It is believed that the Glaswegian giants are looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new campaign and Arfield fits the bill perfectly. The Canadian international has been an integral player for Burnley over the last few years and has caught the eye with some solid performances for the Clarets this season.
Arfield, whose wages are £20k-a-week, departed Falkirk to join Huddersfield Town in 2010 and the 29-year-old midfielder has gone on to have a solid career for himself since then. He has been a sporadic feature for Sean Dyche’s team this season and has helped his side keep up the momentum towards securing Europa League football next season. Some sources are now claiming that the Teddy Bears are interested in securing his services when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The Premier League midfielder has featured in 20 matches for Burnley this season, scoring two goals and creating one assist in all competitions. At 29, Arfield has his peak years ahead of him which the Gers could look to utilise in the coming years.
The Teddy Bears are currently occupying the second spot in the Scottish Premiership rankings with a tally of 75 points after playing 34 league fixtures. It is still unclear whether Graeme Murty would still be in charge at the Ibrox Stadium next season. Hence, Rangers director of football Mark Allen could be responsible to bring in some new recruits in the summer to try and help the Gers mount a realistic title challenge next season.
The addition of Arfield will undoubtedly bolster Murty’s midfield options ahead of the new season. Rangers have the likes of Greg Docherty, Sean Goss, Andy Halliday and Jordan Rossiter vying for a place in Murty’s starting eleven. The potential acquisition of Arfield will definitely add more competition for places in their squad.

The Canadian international is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. The Burnley player primarily plays in central midfield but can also be deployed on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for the Teddy Bears. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Arfield and whether he ends up making a switch to Glasgow in the near future.
