Newcastle United are keeping tabs on KAA Gent winger Moses Simon ahead of a potential move in the summer. According to recent reports, the Magpies are monitoring his development in the top tier of Belgian football where he has put in some dazzling displays for KAA Gent during the course of this season.
Some sources are now claiming that the Tyneside outfit has sent scouts to watch him in action recently. Rafael Benitez’s side has a history of signing players from the Belgian top-flight after both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba arrived from the Belgian Jupiler League in recent years.
Recent sources have also suggested that Newcastle scouts were present during Nigeria’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Serbia in March. They also caught him in action in Gent’s 2-0 win over Anderlecht last weekend. Simon has incredible pace and is known for his attacking talents which is why the Tyneside outfit are interested in securing his services in the off-season. The 22-year-old has featured in 25 matches this season, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists in all competitions. He also has 16 international caps and 3 goals to his name so far for the Nigerian national team.
The Magpies are currently sitting in the 12th position in the Premier League table with a tally of 35 points after Gameweek 32. Rafael Benitez’s team are out of relegation trouble for the time being but still find themselves just seven points above the drop zone. The Tynesiders are in urgent need to bring in some reinforcements during the summer transfer window which will help them in their quest to push on and improve their league performance next term.
The addition of Simon will undoubtedly bolster Benitez’s attacking options ahead of the new season as he has all the talents to be a success at St. James Park. Newcastle have the likes of Kenedy (on loan from Chelsea), Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy vying for a place in Benitez’s first-team. The potential signing of Simon will definitely add more competition for places in the Magpies squad going into the new campaign.

It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Simon and whether he ends up making a switch to St. James Park in the near future.
