Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer. According to recent reports, the 59-year-old coach would consider making a switch to Stamford Bridge and succeed Antonio Conte at the end of this campaign.
The Italian boss has done a sensational job at Napoli this season with his team still in with a great chance of pipping Juventus to the Serie A title. His incredible rise to prominence at Naples has caught the attention of Chelsea chiefs. It is believed that the Blues are on the lookout for a replacement for Conte, who is set to leave the West London club at the end of this season.
Sarri is seen as a viable candidate to succeed Conte and some sources have also claimed recently that the Serie A manager would be open to discuss an approach from Chelsea. The veteran coach has spent his entire career in Italian football so a fresh challenge in England could be too good of an opportunity for him to turn down. He was appointed as the manager of Napoli in the summer of 2015 when he arrived from FC Empoli. His current contract with the Naples-based side is set to run out in 2020.
The Blues of London are currently sitting in the 5th spot in the English top-flight table with a tally of 60 points after 33 league matches. Antonio Conte’s team are still in the FA Cup with a semi-final clash versus Southampton looming on the horizon.
The appointment of a manager of the calibre of Sarri could definitely be a big boost for the West London club as they look to mount a title challenge next term. Sarri has taken charge of 142 matches for Napoli during his stay at Naples, winning 94, drawing 24 and losing 24 of those matches. He also has a healthy Points Per Game (PPG) average of 2.15 (According to Transfermrkt).

The 59-year-old manager has a wealth of experience in Italian football but is still unproven outside Italy which will be a cause for concern. However, if the Blues are looking for instant success, then hiring a coach of Sarri’s pedigree might turn out to be a clever move for them. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Sarri and whether he ends up making a switch to Stamford Bridge in the near future.
