Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid future has been heavily speculated upon this season and a move out of the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer looks more than likely. Zinedine Zidane however, does want to keep the player at the Santiago Bernabeu as he was quoted, “My feeling is that Bale is going to stay at Real Madrid next season. He is not going to lose his motivation. He is an important player. It’s true that there are other players playing and they are doing very well.I would understand if he wasn’t feeling as motivated because players want to play every game. But he has to keep working.”
The 28-year-old has undergone a torrid spell on the sidelines with recurring injuries over the past 2 seasons. He has featured in only 30 games this season, 10 of those as a substitute. His scoring run has not been hampered much with 14 goals registered along with 7 assists.
However, we all know what the Welshman can deliver when fully fit and this is only a glimpse of the entire picture. By Madrid’s standards and the price he is worth, Bale is currently an underachiever in the La Liga side and is not even guaranteed a starting XI spot under Zidane.
Florentino Perez seems to be fed up with the 28-year-old’s constant injury knocks and is ready to off-load him next summer. The Madrid president has been trying to facilitate a transfer move for the Brazilian superstar, Neymar himself and that would mean for either of the current wingers to make a club exit.
Out of all the Galacticos, Bale seems to be the most likely to get the boot and Manchester United could give him an escape. However, will it benefit the player at all?
No. Bale is on the wrong side of his 20s and is a liability for any team, long-term. Perez might agree to take a significant loss from his €100m investment but how much really?
United have a war chest for summer transfers but have already spent over €160m this season and €130m in the last. They have all the attacking talent they need in Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and the newly added Alexis Sanchez.
Madrid, on the other hand, do not have anybody of the same pedigree as Bale. Lucas Vazquez is more of a rotational option and Marco Asensio and Isco are better suited centrally. It would be better if Bale bides his time with the European champions and fight for his place in the starting lineup.
