Manchester United’s transfer pursuit of AS Monaco midfielder, Fabinho seems to have hit a rough patch with the 24-year-old reportedly close to signing a contract extension with the Ligue 1 outfit.
According to Transfermarkt, Fabinho’s current deal is set to run till the summer of 2021. Jose Mourinho was eyeing a summer move for this defensive ace but might just be forced to look for alternatives now.
However, the deal has not fallen through just yet. If there is time for negotiations, United should strongly consider making a last-ditch attempt. The prospects of Premier League football along with a significant wage hike might prove to be the convincing factors.
Fabinho is a proven talent on the European stage. His ball-winning and interception capabilities at the heart of the park are his prime qualities.
The Brazilian takes on the anchor role remarkably well, similar to that of Manchester City’s Fernandinho. Fabinho is also versatile enough to feature in the right-back position.
He has been capped 4 times for the Brazil national team but might not make the trip to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. More established individuals like Real Madrid’s Casemiro and Fernandinho seems to be ahead of him in the pecking order but the move to Old Trafford might help change that in the future.
Cleary the Premier League casts a bigger light on a player’s talents and there is nothing better to prove your worth for one of the country’s best sides. United have returned to title contention status and seems to be recovering from the gaping wound Alex Ferguson’s retirement left on the club.
However, even after measuring up to their bitter rivals in terms of player talent, they have failed to put up a solid fight for the title. Manchester City sit 16-points ahead of them at the top and Jose Mourinho is still scratching his head for solutions.
It is time for them to up the ante – get even better players and solidify each and every position of the team.
The midfield might not be as vulnerable as the defence is at the moment but it could do with some improvements. Paul Pogba has hit a rough patch in his United career and is struggling to make his impact felt in recent times.
He could return to his usual self with a domineering presence next to him. Nemanja Matic has proven to be of value but he is still a doubt for the entirety of the season.
