Manchester United are ready to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are keen on acquiring the services of the English midfielder when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The reigning Europa League champions were previously linked with a move for Dier last summer but a transfer failed to materialise. However, they are now prepared to rekindle their interest in the English midfielder ahead of the new campaign. Dier has put in some solid displays for Spurs under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino during the course of the campaign which has alerted the Old Trafford-outfit to make a move for his signature in the off-season.
Dier has featured in 42 matches for the North Londoners this season and has two assists to his name in all competitions. He has been a regular feature in the Tottenham first-team under Pochettino which is why the Red Devils are willing to opt for his services as he has already proven himself in the English top-flight.
The Reds of Manchester are currently sitting in the second position in the Premier League rankings with a tally of 68 points in 31 league matches. In any other season, Jose Mourinho’s Reds would be well in contention of winning the league title but the outstanding form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall behind in the hunt for the league title.
The addition of Dier will undoubtedly improve Jose Mourinho’s defensive options ahead of the new season. Manchester United have the likes of Daley Blind, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic vying for a place in the Red Devils’ starting eleven. The potential signing of Dier will definitely add more competition for places in the United squad as they look to mount a realistic title challenge next season.

Dier is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the pitch. He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder but can also be deployed in central defence or in the right-back position which makes him a perfect fit for any of his potential suitors. At 24, the English midfielder still has his peak years ahead of him which United could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Dier and whether he ends up making a switch to Old Trafford this summer.
