According to reports in Italy, Manchester United are interested in former Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes. Paredes currently plays in the Russian league with Zenit Saint Petersburg. The Argentine is also wanted by the likes of European heavyweights Real Madrid and Juventus.
However, Paredes, the 23-year-old midfielder, is currently focused on the Russian league and will decide about his future after the World Cup. He said,’’ Right now I am focused on the Russian league but I don’t know what can happen at the end of the season.
He further added it’s important to know that two big clubs like Juve and Real want to sign me but I think to focus on myself without any distraction. I will take a decision about my future after the World Cup but it would be hard to choose between Juve and Real Madrid. I need to see the offers on the table and take the best decision.
Paredes has scored four and assisted another 5 in 29 appearances for Zenit this season. With the Red Devils joining the race to sign him, Paredes will be hoping he is picked up for the Argentina national team for the World Cup to showcase his talent at the big stage. A good world cup can see his stock go higher in the summer.
Along with Roma, he had two loan spells in Italy with Chievo and Empoli. He has already represented his national team as Sampaoli called him to the team in June for friendlies against Singapore and Brazil. He made his international debut against Singapore and also managed to get on the scoresheet. He started his playing career in Argentina with Boca Juniors and is considered as a big talent in his home country.

Paredes is a central midfielder and can also take up the attacking midfielder role as well. He is a brilliant passer of the ball and is very creative. He can make those through balls for willing runners and can orchestrate attack from the midfield region. United currently are in need of a creative midfielder who can dictate and control the tempo of the game. United have been criticised a lot recently for their unimaginative and defensive gameplay. They can certainly do with a player like Paredes who has started and played regularly where ever he has gone.
