Manchester City seems favourites to land the highly rated Dutch defender De Ligt. De Ligt who plays for the Dutch club Ajax has been touted as one of the best defenders of his generation and a host of European giants are after his signature.
Ajax has put a whopping £50m price tag on the defender and many might be thinking that’s too much for someone who hasn’t played outside of Dutch league. But such is the talent of the boy that top clubs are willing to pay that amount to bring him to their club.
Manchester City secured a double this weekend as their derby rivals Manchester United suffered a shock loss to the bottom-placed West Brom. City is on the verge of beating Chelsea’s record of 95 point tally which is an all-time high in the Premier League. Guardiola has done well in his second season but recent results in the Champions League has shown that there are certain holes in the team which he will be looking to fill.
Liverpool got the better off them in both the legs of Champions League as they managed to score five past them. They are on the lookout for a new defender as the likes of Kompany and Stones have been injured for the most part of the season. City has already spent a huge amount of money in last few transfer windows and it seems like they are not going to back away from signing this highly rated defender.
On being asked about his move away from the club De Ligt said-‘’ I am going to make a decision with my head, not based on money offers. He further added,’’ I think some players would be tempted when they get massive offers. But compared to ordinary people I think I earn a huge wage right now, anyway. My next step just has to be right for me when I look at the team and where and how I will live.”
