Liverpool are planning on making a swoop for Manchester City youngster Bobby Duncan this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are eager to bring him to Merseyside when the transfer window opens in the summer after the England Under 17 international has impressed during his time with the City Academy.
However, he has reportedly been in a contract dispute with the Manchester outfit all season which could pave the way for Jurgen Klopp’s side to snap him up at the end of the current campaign. Duncan has not featured for the City Academy for the past few months and is currently training with League One side Wigan Athletic to keep his fitness levels up.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is Duncan’s cousin which might help in the Reds’ pursuit of the player. The 16-year-old, who can be considered as one of England’s highly-rated Under-17 players, has spent his last six years with the Citizens. He also grabbed the headlines when he scored a hattrick against Brazil to become the first player to do so for England at any level.
The Merseyside outfit has a ban on signing young players from other English clubs at the moment which means that they would not be able to sign Duncan until the summer.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently flying high in the Premier League and find themselves in the 3rd position with a tally of 70 points in 34 matches. The Reds have recently secured a comfortable 3-0 home victory in their last league outing and are in prime position to secure a top 4 place this season.
The addition of Duncan will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options in the future but for now, he needs to try and develop his game. Playing regular matches will definitely help him gain some valuable experience which the Reds are willing to provide at Merseyside.
The potential reunion between Gerrard, who is the head coach of the Liverpool Under-18 team, and Duncan could be beneficial for the youngster as he looks to make a breakthrough in the Premier League. It is believed that a fee in the region of £200,000 will be enough to prise him away from City.
