Leicester City are looking to secure the services of Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun this summer. According to recent reports, the Foxes are preparing to make a move for the Rubin Kazan forward when the transfer window opens in the summer. The 23-year-old Russian Premier League forward has been dubbed as the ‘Iranian Messi’ after he scored 22 international goals in 30 appearances for the Iranian national team during the course of his career.
Azmoun is currently playing for Rubin Kazan in the top tier of Russian football and has 25 appearances for them this season in all competitions. He has scored 4 goals while providing six assists for the Russian team so far. However, his international record has been outstanding and at 23, he had the honour of becoming the fifth highest goalscorer in Iran’s history. The forward’s remarkable contributions in front of goal have helped his nation qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia later this year.
The Foxes could definitely use his services as Claude Puel’s team looks to improve their league performance and push for a top 6 finish next year. However, they are not the only ones looking to secure Azmoun’s signature, with Everton, Wolves, Celtic and Fulham all monitoring his development in Russia.
The West Midlands club have a tally of 44 points in 34 league fixtures and currently, find themselves in the 9th place in the league standings. The Foxes are in need to bring in some quality players this summer so that they can push for a European place next term.
The acquisition of Azmoun will undoubtedly bolster Puel’s attacking options ahead of the new season. Leicester City have the likes of Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Kelechi Iheanacho vying for a place in the Foxes’ first-team. The potential addition of Azmoun will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Puel’ squad.

The Rubin Kazan forward is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions up top. Azmoun primarily plays as an out and out forward but can also be deployed as a secondary striker or in the number 10 position which makes him an ideal option for the Foxes. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Azmoun and whether he ends up making a switch to the King Power Stadium in the near future.
