Leeds United are planning to secure the services of Shrewsbury Town midfielder Joe Nolan this summer. According to recent reports, the Peacocks are monitoring the League One talent’s progress at the New Meadow and could make a move for his signature when the transfer window opens in the summer.
It was revealed recently that the 26-year-old midfielder is eager to test himself at the highest level and wants to achieve that goal whilst playing for the Shrews. He has been in sensational form for the Shropshire outfit and has put in some eye-catching displays during the course of this season which has alerted a whole host of Championship teams.
Some sources are claiming that the Peacocks are keeping tabs on his development but could face stiff competition from Norwich City, Ipswich Town and Sunderland in pursuit of the League One midfield enforcer’s signature. Nolan penned a new three-year contract for the Town last summer which means that his club will not be in any pressure to sell.
In a recent interview, Nolan addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “Obviously I’m settled. We’ve had an unbelievable season and hopefully the cherry on top is up getting promoted.”
“It is flattering – it’s good to get that recognition,”
“But it’s all rumours. You can’t do nothing about them or control them.
“We all, as players, even Doigy (Chris Doig) and the gaffer, want to go to the highest level possible.
“Hopefully that can be with Shrewsbury this season.”
The West Yorkshire side are sitting in the 12th spot in the Skybet Championship standings with a tally of 57 points in 44 league fixtures. The Peacocks need to recruit some quality players in the summer transfer market if they are to have any hope to push for a promotion place next season.
The potential addition of Nolan will undoubtedly bolster Paul Heckingbottom’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. The current Leeds side have the likes of Samuel Sáiz, Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira, Kalvin Phillips and Adam Forshaw vying for a position in Heckingbottom’s starting eleven. The acquisition of Nolan will definitely add more competition for places in the Peacocks squad.
