Earlier reports claimed that Pablo Hernandez were hesitating to sign a new contract with Leeds United due to concerns of his family, who has already returned to Spain. But recent updates have come out hinting at the Spaniard’s wishes to extend his Elland Road-stay by another two seasons.
The Whites fans will be rejoicing to hear the news and once the ink is set over the dotted line. The 34-year-old has been key in their attacking lineup this season and might just be the only bright spark still left in a low-morale squad.
His partner was expected to deliver their second child and that will definitely play in the attacking midfielder’s mind in making the final decision.
Hernandez has been one of the only players in the United lineup who managed to deliver on a nightly basis despite having a falling squad around him. The attack is almost non-existent without the presence of an in-form number nine and the defence has also let up under the Paul Heckingbottom management.
Hernandez has taken charge of spreading the floor and setting up his teammates with the key players. He has delivered with 9 goals and 10 assists.
The Spaniard might be 34 but evidently is still capable of playing in the high demands of the Championship. Maybe it can be attributed to the player’s incredible work ethic and professional attitude towards his teammates.
Hernandez is well accustomed to the Premier League as well, mostly from his 2 seasons with Swansea City and 71 appearances. He was also one of the highly rated Valencia youth academy products and has over 150 appearances for the club.
His incredible technical abilities mostly hail from the development he underwent in the La Liga with Valencia and Getafe.
Leeds are looking to revitalize their side in their promotion chase next season and Hernandez’s top-pedigree experience will be crucial in that pursuit. If Heckingbottom leaves next season, the veteran midfielder will be key in helping the new face rebuild the side back to title-challenging pedigree.
Andreas Radrizzani has been optimistic about the club’s future ambitions and has provided the ideal financial leverage needed.

United also have suffered significantly with the behavioural issues of Samuel Saiz in the front line. The Spaniard’s 6-game suspension this season ended up hindering the management transition from Thomas Christiansen and Heckingbottom and hurting the team earlier in the year.
