Manchester United have reportedly released Harry Spratt along with his U18 teammate, Jake Barrett, and the duo is expected to join Huddersfield Town soon. The club released a statement regarding the players – “United would like to wish both Jake and Harry every success for the future.”
Spratt showed lots of promise in his early days and was handed over a U18 debut against Sunderland when he was still in school, in October 2015.
Paul McGuiness first selected the fullback in his squad and was later replaced by Tommy Martin, who also favoured Spratt’s case for selection. The youngster was breaking strides for the United U16s as well but unfortunately had to face the bitter end of an injury crisis.
When asked about the player’s condition, coach Kieran McKenna said, “He’s had injury problems this season and it’s been a challenge for him as he’s found himself behind Jake Kenyon, who is having a great season, in the pecking order a lot of the time. He has done well in the Under-17 games and also in the friendly in Slovakia so he’ll be looking to pick up more experience in 2017.”
Spratt started two of his U18 games last season and appeared in 9 all over. He plays in the left-back position and hails from Leeds in West Yorkshire. Clearly, the player has a lot of talent which is currently hidden behind the dark lens of an injury history.
Maybe the move to Huddersfield is the right path for the young defender now that the club has marked out a place in England’s top-flight. The Terriers are 3-points clear of the relegation scraps and David Wagner might just succeed in keeping the side in the Premier League.
Town inspired plenty with their last-ditch attempt for promotion and after spending 45 years in the lower tiers of English football. They are settling into the challenges of the Premier League and needs to build on their recent success.
The best way to ensure a strong presence in the top-division is by acquiring quality talents along with an efficient youth system. Every club needs to have a backbone to depend on and signing already highly rated players like Spratt can go a long way as far as future ambitions are concerned.

If they do manage to prevent the return to the Championship, the Terriers will see a huge rise in their earnings which could lead the way for more summer arrivals. Spratt will be right at home, given the talent pool Huddersfield have and maybe make his senior team debut next season.
