Everton travelled to John Smith’s stadium to take on Huddersfield. The Terriers are in the bottom half of the table but they were no pushovers as they are looking to secure their future in the Premier League. The Toffees were coming on the back of an important 1-0 victory against the high flying Newcastle United in the previous game.
The game was pretty much even stevens in the first half as both the team were in a tussle in the middle of the park. Everton went ahead in the later stages of the first half as they scored on the break. Theo Walcott played a through pass to Tosun and the Turkish striker timed his run to perfection and scored from a very narrow-angle with a neat finish. The shot wasn’t too powerful but was perfectly placed as even a full stretch dive from Jonas Lössl couldn’t prevent it.
Huddersfield came close to scoring but they couldn’t provide the finishing touches in the end and Everton put the game to bed when Idriss Gueye scored the second. The goal came about because of some good work by substitute Oumar Niasse near the corner flag and Leighton Baines laid it off to the Senegalese midfielder and he slotted it home from 20 yards out.
Here is how the Everton played fared in the game where they secured a comfortable 2-0 win:
Pickford-7
One cannot really remember whether he had to make a proper save in the game. A comfortable game for the English stopper.
Coleman-7
Was solid throughout the game especially on the attacking front. Missed a glorious chance in the 57th minute. Apart from that had a pretty much flawless game.
Jagielka-6
The experienced defender looked slightly off on few occasions but grew into the game slowly and saw the game off comfortably.
Keane-6
Made some crucial interceptions and won aerial duels which kept The Toffees in control of the game.
Baines-7
Provided attacking threat down the left and registered an assist for the second goal scored by Idriss Gueye. Did his job at the back when called upon.
Gueye-8
A man of the match performance by the Senegalese as he was immense in the middle of the park. Especially in the second half, he won some crucial tackles and interceptions. Popped in with the second goal to secure the game for The Blues.
Schneiderlin-7
A usual composed performance from the Frenchman. Kept the game ticking in the middle of the park.
Vlasic-6
Was a surprise pick over the regular Yannick Bolasie. Took some time to get in the game and put in a good shift in the second half.
Rooney-6
Didn’t have much to do in the first half but took control of the game in the second which led to Everton dominating the game
Walcott-6.5
Was a constant threat throughout the game because of his speed. Could have done better if he would have been more composed in the final third. Made the first goal for Tosun by providing him a good through ball.
Tosun-7
The Turkish striker gave his all on the pitch and continued to chase even the lost cause. Got his reward by scoring the crucial first goal which was extremely well finished.
