PSV Eindhoven director Marcel Brands has been linked with a move to Everton in recent weeks. However, according to recent reports, the 56-year-old is still undecided on his future and is not ready to commit to the Toffees just yet.
Some sources have recently claimed that Brands was approached by the Merseyside club last month which has now been confirmed by the Dutch club on Sunday. In a recent interview, Brands addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “Everton? It is flattering,”
“But I have said no more than yes in recent years. I also said yes to PSV only the second time.
“I have a very nice job here and a beautiful life. The question is whether I want to give it up. I have never been a club hopper. “
Brands was appointed PSV Eindhoven’s director of football in the summer of 2010. He has also worked as a football director for AZ Alkmaar and RKC Waalwijk. However, the Dutchman is yet to experience working in that role for clubs outside the Netherlands which will be a cause for concern.
Everton are currently in the 9th position in the Premier League table with a tally of 41 points after Gameweek 33. They still have a tiny chance of earning a top 7 finish in the league at the end of this season but are still 8 points away from 7th placed Burnley going into the final few matches of the campaign.
The addition of Brands as their new football director will definitely be a huge boost for the club as he has a great track record as a football director during his time in the Dutch Eredivisie. He is exactly the kind of person who can come in and stabilise the club while building for a bigger and brighter future. The Toffees are hoping to qualify for Europe in the coming years and break into the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ so the potential appointment of Brands will undoubtedly go a long way in helping them achieve that feat.
The Blues of Merseyside should look to buy some talented youngsters which will help them build for the future and Brands is the perfect man to take up that role. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Dutchman and whether he decides to join Everton in the near future.
