Italian news outlet, Tutto Mercato has reported on Inter Milan’s growing interest in Everton outcast, Davy Klaassen. Sam Allardyce has managed to practically ignore the Dutchman’s talents altogether having last spoken about the player during the January transfer window.
Another Serie A outfit, Napoli had proposed a loan-spell offer to the player but eventually, negotiations broke down over identity and financial concerns. When questioned about the player’s failed move, Allardyce said, “That’s the power of the player with the agent. There is nothing else we can do about that. If I’m sat in that position and have an agent, the agent works for me, not the other way round.”
“For me, it would never have been a financial decision. Even if I was losing money I’d be going because I’d want to play football. Davy wants to play but whether he got the full story I don’t know. I can’t really speculate much more, other than Davy is disappointed and we are disappointed.”
Whether ‘Big Sam’ himself will keep his job at Goodison beyond this season is uncertain at the moment but Klaassen’s time is clearly over with the Toffees. The last time we saw the midfielder take the pitch was during ‘garbage’ time of the 2-0 win over Brighton And Hove Albion, back on 10th March.
In total Klaassen has featured in only 15 games this season which adds up to roughly 850 minutes. Who knew that the £23.6m signing from Ajax would turn out to be a bust in such a short period of time?
The Dutchman was practically hailed as the next big thing of Europe after the impressive Europa League his former team had in the 2016/17 season. Klaassen was the leader of the young Ajax squad and had registered 20 goals and 12 assists in his 50 appearances last campaign.
And then Everton went out and signed Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City and brought back their very own, Wayne Rooney from Manchester United. That sparked competition from the minute he set foot in England. Maybe failure was anticipated for he was going up against two stars who had already proven their money’s worth in the country’s top-flight.
Inter could be a prime escape but how much of their summer investment are the Toffees prepared to sacrifice? It is highly unlikely that they will break even after the season Klaassen just had.

Nevertheless, at least we will get to witness a revival story within the realms of Italian football because the player is still capable of producing against top-tier opposition.
