Transfer Speculation
As per one of the latest reports by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Everton are perceived to have put Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder, Shinji Kagawa, on their radar. Apart from the Toffees, their fellow Premier League rivals, West Ham United, are also monitoring him closely and both these clubs are keen to prise him out of Westfalenstadion during the summer transfer window.
Fact File
Kagawa is an experienced campaigner and there is no doubt about the calibre that he possesses. He started his professional career with the Japanese outfit, Cerezo Osaka and was signed by Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2010. After a couple of seasons, he was lured to the Old Trafford but he couldn’t make a galvanizing impact while he was in the ranks of Manchester United.
After two seasons with the English giants, he returned back to Borussia Dortmund and is under a contract with the German top-flight side until 2020. Besides, he has featured regularly for the Japanese national side and the 29-year-old midfielder is going to play a massive role for the Samurai Blue in the World Cup that is set to kick off in the summer in Russia.
Attributes & Season So Far
Kagawa’s versatility of operating from the wings as well as any position in the midfield is arguably his strongest suit. He has raw pace in his legs and thanks to his vision and stupendous passing range, he can knit the side together as a unit. He makes a substantial amount of defensive contributions, holds the ball meticulously anywhere on the pitch and is quite aggressive as well.
These days, he isn’t a regular face in Dortmund’s starting line-up owing to his injuries but he has been one of the bright players under the tutelage of Peter Stoger despite the conundrums that surround the club. He has scored 5 goals and has also registered 1 assist in 18 appearances in German Bundesliga this season and has jotted a handsome pass completion rate of 87.4% on an average.

Kagawa certainly has some unfinished business in English football and the lucre and competiveness that it offers might appeal him to make a move. Everton do have quality resources at their disposal but by signing someone like Kagawa, there would be a notable rise in competition among the players for a place in the starting line-up. However, he is expected to cost €13million and the Black and Yellows are seemingly likely to be reluctant to lose him in the summer.
