As per one of the latest reports by L’Equipe, Everton are targeting Nantes’ blossoming teenage sensation, Kamal Bafounta, and are keen to lure him to the Goodison Park in the summer. Bafounta is one of the hottest properties in French football at this stroke of hour, having taken the youth sides by storm, and no wonder why Everton have placed him on their watch.
The Toffees have had a decent season in the Premier League but there are many areas they should try to better next season. After 34 games in the top-flight so far this season, they are placed at the 9th spot in the league table with 42 points. Although a finish in the top-half of the league table seems imminent for them, they must strive for better outcomes next season.
Bafounta has smashed 9 goals from 15 starts for the Under-17 side this season and he is seemingly likely to pave his way to the senior side of the Canaries very soon, if he stays with them. The midfielder has shown immense calibre and has been found to be a cool and composed customer in the middle of the park who is eyeing for better things for himself in the coming seasons.
He must be keen to take his developmental process to the next season and there is no denying that some of the renowned clubs in Europe are going to try to prise him out of Claudio Ranieri’s side. The Ligue 1 outfit are planning to tie him down with a new contract but apparently, the youngster is reluctant to sign a new deal with his current club.
Nantes have produced players such as Claude Makelele and Marcel Desailly in the past and Bafounta seems to be someone who could be a household name within a few years. He is one of the prized assets of Nantes and it goes without saying that they are going to refrain from striking him off their books in the summer. As he is a trainee, Everton can strike gold with a nominal fee.

The 16-year-old possesses appealing talents and given that Everton have been very good at making proper use of the young guns at their disposal, the deal could be a beneficial one for the player in particular. However, he lacks experience of competitive football and it would be intriguing to see how he is used by Everton if the deal eventually materializes. Besides, the Merseyside club need to bring proven figures to the club irrespective of whether they sign Bafounta or not.
